Charlotte Richards, MSW, LCSW
Clinical Focus: Adolescents, Couples and Families, Mood Disorders Phone: (801) 980-2566 Ext. 109 - Email: Charlotte@ZestCounseling.com Charlotte is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and provides mental health services at our American Fork location. She completed her Bachelor of Social Work degree with BYU-Hawaii and her Masters in Social Work with the University of Utah. She has been a social worker for almost two decades and has an extensive background working with teens struggling to manage their home, school, and social life in age-appropriate ways. |
Clinically, Charlotte has experience treating individuals, couples and families. During her clinical graduate training she provided general psychotherapy, addiction and drug dependency counseling, adoption, and other treatment related services to women and girls experiencing unintended pregnancy. Additionally, she taught psychoeducational classes and co-facilitated groups focused on strengthening marriages and families, and preparing biological parents and families for parenthood or adoption placement.
Charlotte went on to medical social work, working with kidney and liver transplant patients. Her experience and education in the transplant world continued when her own son required a life-saving heart transplant in September 2018. Charlotte’s background in playing on high school and collegiate sports teams prepared her to be a part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with the transplant surgeon, transplant physician, registered nurse transplant coordinator, nutritionist, pharmacist, as well as the in-patient nursing and allied health staff caring for the transplant patient or living donor. She worked closely with patients and families, making sure they knew they were just as critical members of the team. Charlotte was involved with transplant patients and living donors throughout the transplant and donation process including pre-evaluation, psychosocial informed consent (assessing increased risks for depression, anxiety, dependence on others, emotional trauma, feelings of guilt, possible future health and mental health problems, impact of receiving a transplant, and the impact on future medical, disability and life insurance), transplant and living donor selection, hospital discharge planning, and short term and long-term follow up. She also provided counseling and crisis intervention, patient and family education, information and referral to hospital and community resources and services, and was involved in patient and caregiver support groups.
Charlotte is excited be a part of the Zest team. She is originally from England but was raised in Utah. She loves family, friends, laughter, and life. She is the mother to an animal-loving, teenage daughter and a younger sports-loving, heart warrior son. She enjoys playing and coaching sports, particularly softball and volleyball. You can find her in her spare time coaching her kids leagues or the high school volleyball team, attending U of U football games, Jazz games, comedy shows, concerts, and traveling.
