Ami Jo is a Licensed Advanced Substance Use Counselor and a Clinical Social Work Intern. She is completing her Master of Social Work with a special certification in crisis and disaster relief from Louisiana's Tulane University. Ami Jo is certified in rape crisis counseling, suicide grief, and loss as well as a certified Hearing Voices Movement facilitator
As a Therapist, Ami's focus is to promote healing through evidence-based practice. Ami has worked with individuals and families impacted by substance use since 2014. She works with not only those who have unhealthy addictions but also the families. Ami Jo's work with the recovery community has also given her experience in helping facilitate and support individuals through faith crises and transitions. She has also worked with individuals to understand and deepen their sense of self through intersections of their identity including gender and sexuality. She believes finding and honoring your genuine self is most important. Ami Jo enjoys helping families find common ground and respect for one another.
Ami Jo worked with the Alzheimer's Association with caregivers and has special training in helping reduce caregiver burnout. Ami Jo's past and current work includes research with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for chronic pain. With this, she has learned to help individuals find a life worth living through value-focused ACT.
Ami Jo has been passionate about her work and has a constant drive to educate herself. She is also passionate about her family and the outdoors. If she's not at work or in the classroom you can find her camping, fishing, or wandering the art and music scene.
Ami Jo is hard of hearing and uses ASL and lip reading to communicate. An interpreter will be present at every session. She is fine if you request another interpreter join if one makes you uncomfortable or you know them.
